At the foot of the Eastern Sierra Nevadas, the area around this little town is a destination for lovers of outdoor recreation. The local pride and joy is a giant sequoia at the north end of town, reportedly planted to celebrate the arrival of the Westgard Pass (SR 168) as an automobile route in 1913.
